WALTER KENT
He inscribed and signed the front cover of sheet music for "I'll Be Home for Christmas" on Christmas Day, 1992. Significantly, Kent has inked out the name of one of the three credited composers.
Sheet Music inscribed and signed: "To Steve Juscik -/Merry Xmas!/Walter Kent/12-25/92", 4 pages, 8½x11. Signed on front cover. The cover credits Kent, Kim Gannon and Buck Ram as composers, but Kent has inked out Ram's name. Walter Kent (1911-1994) composed music for TV, films and the Broadway stage, but he is best remembered for two sentimental hits of World War II: "(There'll Be Bluebirds Over) the White Cliffs of Dover" (1941), and "I'll Be Home for Christmas" (1943). Kent wrote the music for both, with lyrics provided by Nat Burton (for "Dover") and James 'Kim' Gannon for "Christmas." "I'll Be Home for Christmas," a bit hit for Bing Crosby in 1943 and a sentimental favorite covered by dozens of artists since, was the most requested song at USO Christmas shows all around the world. American composer Buck Ram, who had written an otherwise dissimilar song with the same title, sued Kent and Gannon for copyright infringement, and for a time he was listed in the credits, but later renditions of the song credit only Kent and Gannon. Lightly worn and soiled at edges. Fine condition.
