The met by accident at an Austrian resort in the early 1930s, the duet performed from 1932 until Rawicz's death in 1970 and was famed for their precise four-hand playing based on Landauer's adaptations of popular and classical music. They moved to England in 1935 to escape the Nazis, where they made regular appearances on BBC radio and eventually became citizens.
