WINIFRED MANN
The actress writes to John Willis, Editor of Theatre World, apologizing for the delay in sending her resume
Autograph letter signed: "Winifred Mann", in blue ink, 1 page, 5¾x8. May 21, 1968. In full: "Mr. John Willis, Thank you for your interest - and please accept my apologies for being so tardy about responding. I enclose my resume in hopes it will be useful [item not included]. Since most of my experience has been neither on or off Broadway (yet professional) it didn't fit neatly onto your questionnaire. Cordially". Winifred Mann's (1918-2007) major acting debut was in 1968 in the Broadway play Tiger at the Gates. She appeared in one more Broadway play, Cyrano de Bergerac, in the same year. Mann later transitioned to television, where she appeared in minor roles in several series. John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Normal mailing folds. Light surface creases. Small puncture hole in bottom right margin. Corners lightly worn. Slightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
