YEHUDI MENUHIN
First Day Cover signed: "Yehudi/Menuhin", 7½x4½. FDC celebrating
antique musical instruments, 17-cent stamp affixed, postmarked Vancouver,
Canada, January 19, 1981, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Yehudi Menuhin
(1916-1999) enjoyed an international career as a violinist and, in his
later years, as a conductor. At age 13, he inspired Albert Einstein to
declare at a Berlin concert, "Now I know there is a God in heaven!"
Primarily a classical musician, he also produced acclaimed recordings of
Broadway tunes and of Indian music (the latter with Ravi Shankar). Born an
American citizen, he later enjoyed dual citizenship as a subject of the British
Empire. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II and later became Lord Yehudi
Menuhin. Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
