Aubrey Boucicault (1868-1913), youngest son of the famous Irish talent Dion Boucicault, was a stage actor, playwright and popular matinee star of the late 19th century and early 20th century. Making his stage debut in London in 1888, he made his American premier in 1889 with Kate Claxton in The Two Orphans. He spent the remainder of his career travelling on Broadway from Europe to the United States, performing in Other People's Money (1895), The Merchant of Venice (1901), Higgledy-Piggledy (1904-1905) and his own play, Heidelberg (1902-1903). He also acted in his father's Irish plays, including Hotel Topsy Turvy and Mlle. Fifi. Cut down in his prime, Boucicault suffered heat stroke while traveling New York City and died less than a week later after relapsing into a coma. His last major stage performance was in John E. Kellerd's Hamlet at the Irving Place Theater in 1911. 5½x2¼ attached to 8x3¾ (2 surfaces). Creased and edges rippled. Stamp at top right corner. Staple holes at top margin.
