Barbara Cartland sends a typed letter to a fan about her fan club and a list of the books she has written.
Typed Letter signed: "Dame Barbara Cartland", 1p, 5¾x8¼. Camfield Place, Hatfield, Hertfordshire (England), 1994 January 10. On personal letterhead to "My Dear Mr. Wilson", in full: "Thank you so much for your letter. I am delighted to send you a personally signed photograph [not included], and I do hope that you like it. I am also sending you a list of the books I have written, so that you can see which ones you have not yet read. I also enclose the information about my new Romance Club, and I am sure that it will be of special interest to you. It is now at a special price of £9.95p. plus postage and packing. With all my best wishes". By 1999, Barbara Cartland (1901-2000), the step-grandmother of Princess Diana, had sold over 650 million copies of her romance novels, which usually featured a virginal heroine who was swept off her feet by a rakish hero who saves the day. Beginning in 1923, she authored 724 titles, including a 1926 play racy enough to be banned from the London stage. Cartland was still composing 20 or more titles yearly and granting interviews until shortly before she died just seven weeks before her 99th birthday. Queen Elizabeth II invested her a Dame of the British Empire in 1991. Slightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
