Benjamin H. Brewster signs a piece of paper on November 28, 1884.
Signature: "Benjamin Harris Brewster/Atty Genl/28 Nov 84", 7½x4½ piece of paper. Benjamin Harris Brewster (1816-1888) was appointed by President Polk (1846) to adjudicate Cherokee Indian claims against the US Government. He was Attorney General of Pennsylvania (1867-1868) and later US Attorney General under President Arthur (1882-1885). Brewster is remembered for saying: "A lawyer starts life giving $500 worth of law for $5 and ends giving $5 worth for $500." 6-inch signature! Lightly shaded at perimeter. Irregular left edge from removal from bound book. Fine condition.
