Form for computing membership dues in the organization for the first quarter of 1966. "Maximum" is typed on the lines for gross earnings in 1965 and estimated earnings for 1966. Claiming maximum earnings resulted in membership dues of $1,000 annually. In 1966, the year after he signed this document, Wilder was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for The Fortune Cookie. Austrian-born screenwriter and director Billy Wilder (1906-2002) won Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Screenplay for The Lost Weekend (1946), Best Screenplay for Sunset Blvd. (1951) and Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Picture for The Apartment (1961). He was also nominated for Oscars for Best Screenplay for Ninotchka (1939, his first nomination), Hold Back the Dawn (1941), Double Indemnity (1944), A Foreign Affair (1948), Sabrina (1954) and The Fortune Cookie (1966), Best Original Story for Ball of Fire (1941), Best Adapted Screenplay for Some Like It Hot (1959) and Best Director for Double Indemnity, Sunset Boulevard, Stalag 17 (1953), Sabrina and Witness for the Prosecution (1957). Wilder and his work were recognized with the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award in 1987, the year after he had won a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Film Institute. Lightly creased with folds, not at signature. Red pencil "x" to left of signature, ink notes (unknown hand) and receipt stamp at lower right. Slightly smudged above typed "Maximum". Fine condition.
