CLARK TERRY
The jazz musician is shown with his instrument, inscribed in silver ink for a fan
Inscribed Printed Photograph Signed in Ink: "To Ray/from/Clark/[trumpet drawn]". B/w, 8x10 overall, image 7¼x8¾ (one surface). Publicity photo for Etoile Mus. Prod. Inc. Captioned at lower margin. Musician Clark Terry (1920-2015) is known for possessing "the happiest sound in jazz", a sound that is always exuberant and fun. Beginning as a trumpeter in the early St. Louis jazz scene of the 1940s, C.T. began specializing on the flügelhorn in the mid-1950s. A distinctive soloist, Terry also performed with big bands, orchestras and small groups, including those of Charlie Barnet (1947-1948), Count Basie (1948-1951) and Duke Ellington (1951-1959). C.T., who was also a member of the Quincy Jones Orchestra (1959-1960) and The Tonight Show orchestra, was a major performing and recording force from the 1970s-1990s, gaining legions of loyal fans with his happy, swinging music. Lightly soiled at lower margin. Fine condition.
