Typed DS: "Dan Dailey" as Performer on page 5, 5 pages, 8½x11, separate sheets. Los Angeles, California, 1954 March 22. On letterhead of J. Walter Thompson Company to Dailey c/o Louis Shurr Agency. Contract for Dailey to make an appearance on Lux Radio Theatre on March 29, 1954. Rehearsals were to be held on March 28 and March 29, and the show would air from 6:00-7:00 p.m. on March 29. Dailey was to be paid $1750.00 for his role as "Mr Cameron (Cam)". Two pages of standard conditions follow the summary letter, followed by two pages of "Additions Not Part of Standard Form". These additions include provisions such as "Performer agrees the Performer shall not improvise, extemporize or use unapproved material." and "Performer agrees not to appear on any radio and/or television program prior to the conclusion of broadcasting of the program on the broadcast date." Also signed by a representative of the J. Walter Thompson Company. In the year he signed this document, Dailey appeared in on feature film, There's No Business Like Show Business. Actor and dancer Dan Dailey (1917-1978) moved from vaudeville to Broadway (Babes in Arms, 1937) to Hollywood. Recipient of a Best Actor Oscar nomination for When My Baby Smiles at Me (1948), he also appeared in such films as Meet Me at the Fair (1952), The Pride of St. Louis (as pitcher Dizzy Dean, 1952) and It's Always Fair Weather (1955). Dailey also appeared on television in such series as The Governor and J.J. (1969). Ink has spread on the "D" of Dan and the dot above the "i" in Dailey. Lightly creased with folds, not at signatures. Staple holes at upper left corners. Fine condition.
