Photograph signed: "Emlyn Williams" and "Rip Torn" in black felt tip, B/w 8x10. The stage
performance Daughter of Silence played at the Music Box Theatre opening on November 30,
1961 and closing on December 30, 1961. Rip Torn played the role of Carlo and Emlyn
Williams played Ascolini. Stage, screen and television actor Rip Torn (1931-2019) was
perhaps best known for his Emmy-winning role as talk show producer Arthur on The
Larry Sanders Show (from 1992). Nominated for Best Supporting Actor in 1983 for Cross
Creek, Torn made his film debut in 1956 in Baby Doll. His other feature film credits include
King of Kings (1961), Sweet Bird of Youth (1962, reprising his Tony Award-nominated
stage role), The Cincinnati Kid (1965), Tropic of Cancer (1970), Coma (1978), Heartland
(1979), Wonder Boys (2002) and Men in Black (1997) and its sequel, Men in Black II
(2002). Torn, who was married to actress Geraldine Page from 1961 until her death in
1987, first appeared with his future wife in the 1959-1960 Broadway production, Sweet Bird
of Youth, for which he was nominated for a 1960 Tony Award as Best Featured Actor in a
Play and won the 1950 Theatre World Award for his role as Tom, Jr. He has also appeared
in numerous made-for-TV movies and guested on TV series. George Emlyn Williams
(1905-1987) was a distinguished Welsh playwright (Night Must Fall, 1936; The Corn is
Green, 1942), screenwriter (The Man Who Knew Too Much, 1934) and film and stage
actor (who won a Tony for A Boy Growing Up, 1958). In addition to plays, he penned a
novel, two autobiographies and a controversial true crime study, Beyond Belief (1967). Worn.
Creased. Light surface scratches (barely visible head on). Otherwise, fine condition.
