I am not the Dave Barry you think I am although I have the same name. Would you be kind enough to tell me how you got my address? I would appreciate it very much. Thank you & good luck. (over)". On verso, handwritten postscript: "P.S. If the Dave Barry you seek is the nationally syndicated columnist, I believe his headquarters are a newspaper "The Miami Herald," Miami, Florida." Comedian Dave Barry (1919-2001) began his career on radio before appearing in the Catskills and in the Army's Special Services Unit during WWII. He began his Las Vegas career at the El Rancho, moving to the Desert Inn's Hello, America revue, before beginning his eight-year stint as the opening act for Wayne Newton. Barry, who later opened for Frank Sinatra and performed on cruise ships and at the Palm Springs Follies variety show, also appeared in several feature films, including High Society (1955) and Some Like It Hot (1959) and did voice work for the TV series, The Pink Panther. The "other" Dave Barry mentioned in this letter has been a humor columnist for "The Miami Herald" since 1983, winning the 1988 Pulitzer Prize for Commentary. Syndicated in more than 500 newspapers in the U.S. and abroad, Barry has also written 24 books, which were the basis for the TV sitcom, Dave's World.
