ED MALZAHN
The Ditch Witch compact trencher inventor, and company CEO, signs name in black ink
Typed letter signed: "Edward Malzahn" in black ink. 1 page, 8½x11. Written on official Ditch Witch letterhead. Perry, Oklahoma. July 30, 1992. Addressed to Mr. William Stanhope of Albuquerque, New Mexico. In full: "Being at the right place at the right time, with the right skills and ideas, is a situation I have neither the wisdom or skill to give counsel on. Divine guidance is something I search for, and hopefully receive. I have none to offer. Good luck in your search". Ed Malzahn is the president and chairman of the Charles Machine Works Inc., having retired in 2005 from CEO to make way for his daughter. Malzahn turned his grandfather's machinery repair shop into a commercialized company when in the late 1940s he applied his mechanical engineering degree to a device he believed would simplify the process of installing residential utility services, the first ever compact trencher called the DWP or Ditch Witch Power. It was introduced commercially in 1949, and has since been invaluable to construction sites across the world, even being named one of the 100 best American-made products in the world by Fortune Magazine. Normal mailing folds. Lightly toned. Corners rounded. Otherwise, fine condition.
