Robinson signed this contract with Highroad Pictures in 1967 to establish how much of his salary from MacKenna's Gold would go to his agent, the William Morris Agency.
Contract signed "Edward G. Robinson" in blue ink. Also signed by a representative of Highroad Pictures in blue ink. With black ink notations in unknown hand. 2 pages, 8½x11, single-sided sheets, on thin paper. May 4, 1967. Addressed to Highroad Pictures, Inc. Hollywood, California. According to this contract, Highroad Pictures - which had hired Robinson to appear in MacKenna's Gold (1969) as Old Adams - was to pay the William Morris Agency one-ninth of any compensation that they owed Robinson. Robinson (1893-1973, born Emmanuel Goldenberg in Bucharest, Romania) had his first film success in Little Caesar (1931), leading to a series of gangster roles. Later film successes included Double Indemnity (1944), Key Largo (1948), The Cincinnati Kid (1948) and Soylent Green (1973). He learned shortly before his death that he would be awarded an Oscar in 1973 for his outstanding contribution to motion pictures. Lightly toned, creased and rippled. Pen dribbled while signing Robinson's signature, which is still legible. Staple holes in upper left corner. Two file holes at upper edge. Upper left corners are missing.
