EMIL FUCHS and ETHELBERT TALBOT. IV Sunday in Advent", 5½x8½ album leaf. Vienna-born American artist EMIL FUCHS (1866-1929) studied in Vienna and at the Royal Academy in London before coming to the U.S. in 1905. A prolific sculptor (Fuchs created a number of medals that remain highly collectible today), he also enjoyed celebrity as a portraitist of English and American "high society" figures. Episcopalian clergyman ETHELBERT TALBOT (1848-1928) was named Bishop of Central Pennsylvania in 1898 and settled in the town of Bethlehem. In 1924, the year after he signed this autograph, Talbot was named Presiding Bishop of the Church. Talbot, who had begun his career as a rector in Macon, Missouri in 1873, later served as a missionary bishop in Wyoming and Idaho, overseeing the building of St. Matthew's Cathedral in Laramie, Wyoming from 1892-1897. No information is available on George Rust Bedinger. A Confederate officer of that name died leading Virginia volunteers in a charge up Culp's Hill during the Battle of Gettysburg (July 1863). This signer merits further research. Lightly shaded at right margin, file holes at blank left edge. Fine condition.
