Commemorative Envelope signed: "David Low", 6½x3½. Postmarked Pasadena, California, August 2, 1991, 29-cent U.S. stamp featuring Desert Storm affixed. Ink stamp cachet features the space shuttle, with ink stamp at lower left denoting STS 43 Atlantis Launch. The four other signatures on the envelope, Jim Adamson, John Blaha, Michale Baker and Shannon Lucid are autopen signatures. George David Low (1956-2008) was an American aerospace engineer and NASA astronaut who flew on three Space Shuttle missions. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of NASA executive George M. Low. He earned a Bachelor of Science in physics-engineering from Washington and Lee University in 1978, a Master of Science in mechanical engineering from Cornell University in 1980, and later completed a master's degree in management from Stanford University. Selected as a NASA astronaut in 1984, Low flew on STS-32 (1990), STS-43 (1991), and STS-57 (1993), logging over 714 hours in space and performing a spacewalk during STS-57. After leaving the astronaut corps, he served in management roles at NASA Headquarters and later joined Orbital Sciences Corporation. Low received numerous honors during his career, including the NASA Distinguished Service Medal, the NASA Exceptional Service Medal, and the NASA Space Flight Medal. Fine condition.
