GEORGE COLE

The famous British actor pens his autograph with “Best wishes” on this 4½x3½ card, signed in blue ink

Autograph Sentiment Signed:"Best wishes/George Cole" in blue ink, 4½x3½ card. A familiar face on British television, George Cole (1925-2015) debuted on the London stage at age 14 (1939). His film credits include Quartet (1948), The Belles of St. Trinian's (1953), Cleopatra(as Flavius, 1963) and Mary Reilly (as Dr. Jekyll's butler Poole, 1996). Cole appeared in several TV series, beginning in 1960, playing everything from a haughty aristocrat in Blott on the Landscape to a communist in Comrade Dad. He is best known, however, for his portrayal of Arthur Daley, a shady cockney businessman always hatching a business scheme ("a nice little earner") on Minder (1988-1994). So identified did Cole become with this role that he complained of difficulty getting his checks accepted at business establishments. Lightly soiled in blank areas near top and bottom edges. Faint vertical scratch touches "r" of signature. Mounting paper remnants on verso (no show-through). Otherwise, fine condition.
