Third Person ALS twice: "Lord Aberdeen" and "Lord A", 1p, 4½x6. Argyll House, 1830 May 14. In full: "Lord Aberdeen regrets very much that he is under the necessity of attending a meeting this morning at the Duke of Wellington's, at twelve oclock. It is probable he may be returned about two or three oclock and would then see Mr Burnett with pleasure. Or, if Mr. Burnett should prefer to call tomorrow at twelve, Lord A will be at home at that time." GEORGE HAMILTON-GORDON, 4TH EARL ABERDEEN from 1801, negotiated and signed the Treaty of Töplitz (1813) that created an alliance against Napoléon. In 1814, he signed the Treaty of Paris. British Foreign Secretary under Prime Ministers the Duke of Wellington (1828-1830) and Robert Peel (1841-1846), Lord Aberdeen served as British Prime Minister (1852-1855) of a coalition government that fell because of mismanagement of the Crimean War. Mounting remnants on verso show through at blank margins. Light stains at bottom right blank corner and in text, touching 4 words. 2 tears, ¼x½ and ¼x1, at right margin touch 2 words. Overall, fine condition.
