The Representative of Louisiana signs a letter to Barbara Norton, then head of the Public Relations department at the Sheraton-Park Hotel, congratulating her and her husband on their move to Santa Monica.

In full: "Dear Barbara and Orville: Lindy and I enjoyed reading your delightful letter and we are both so happy for you. Living in Santa Monica is quite a change from Washington - all that sunshine and warm weather. All the family enjoyed being together in New Orleans for the holidays. We feel so blessed with our beautiful grandchildren. We will miss you at the Mardi Gras Ball next month. Our very best wishes to you both for a very happy New Year. Sincerely". Hale Boggs (1914-1972) represented Louisiana in the US House of Representatives from 1947 to 1973. Boggs was Majority Whip (1962-1973) and was elected Majority Leader by his Democratic colleagues in 1971. A plane flying Boggs, Representative Nick Begich, and to others to a campaign rally disappeared on route to an Alaska campaign rally on October 16, 1972. Boggs and the other passengers were never found, and were declared dead after a prolonged search. As Democratic Whip, Boggs played a key role in shepherding President Johnson's Great Society legislation through the Congress. He was a member of the Warren Commission (1963-1964). Boggs was succeeded in office by his widow, Lindy Boggs. Normal mailing folds. Fine condition.
