JACK BENNY: SUMMER OF 1937
He signs a typed letter discussing his busy schedule and his plans for a trip to the Orient.
TLS: "Jack Benny", 1 page, 7¼x10½. Hollywood, Cal., 1937 May 24. To Jim Small, Shiretown Inn, Alfred, Maine. In full: "Thanks for your nice letter. If I ever have a chance to get up your way will be very glad to see you. At present I am making a picture for Paramount and broadcasting and hardly have a minute to myself. If I have any time off this summer expect to take a trip to the Orient. With all good wishes." Paramount's Artists and Models was released in 1937. In the musical comedy, Benny played Mac Brewster, an advertising man trying to hold on to his biggest client. In the musical sequel released in 1938, Artists and Models Abroad, Benny was Buck Boswell, the leader of a troupe of performers who ends up broke and stranded in Paris. The Jack Benny Program had been broadcasted weekly on the radio since October 23, 1932. Benny's planned summer visit to the Orient may have changed: China declared war on Japan on July 7, 1937. Lightly soiled at blank margins. Fine condition.
