JOHNNY BOND
The year before his death, the country singer/songwriter prices his recordings for a fan.
Typed Letter signed: "Johnny Bond", 1 page, 8x9¾. Burbank, California, 1977 May 1. On letterhead of Red River Songs, Inc. to Doyle Pruitt, Lexington, Kentucky. In full: "Regret I can't help you with Tex Ritter folios. They just don't make them things no more. GIT OFF MY HORSE and SADDLE WAS A LADY with Tex and myself is contained in my Lamb and Lion LP 4002, ''HOW I LOVE THEM OLD SONGS'. I have an extra copy which I can send you for $5.00. I will have a Gene Autry Story in a year or two and a History of Western Music a few years later, but right now the only thing I have on the market is my own Autobiography/Discography which sells for $4.00. I also have two Cowboy/Western Long Playing Albums out on the CMH label. 'The Singing Cowboy Rides Again' and 'Return of the Singing Cowboy'. They are newly recorded and sell for $5.00 each. I will be at Texas Jim Cooper's doings in July the 16th so imagine you'll be there too. Do you have the 2 record set of Tex Ritter Decca recordings put out in Germany? They are now out of print and I have two copies left. They cost me $8.00 each. I will probably bring them to Carrollton and auction them off. Since you mentioned Tex Ritter albums, I have one copy each of most of his albums and could put them on tape or cassette for the same price of the LP plus the tape. If interested, I could send a list of the LPs. Regards. Sincerely yours". Johnny Bond was the professional name of country singer/songwriter Cyrus Whitfield Bond (1915-1978). He began performing with Jimmy Wakely in the late 1930s, and joined Gene Autry's Melody Ranch in 1940. He had several hit records, beginning with "Divorce Me C. O. D." (1947), and ending with "Three Little Bottles" (1963). He also had a hit rendition of "Hot Rod Lincoln" in 1960. Bond is in two Halls of Fame: Country Music and Nashville Songwriters. Multiple mailing folds. Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
