JOYCE RANDOLPH
Photocopied newspaper article from the September 24, 1987 issue of the "New York
Post".
Photocopied Newspaper Article inscribed and signed: "For Sam Porter from Joyce
Randolph, Sept. 1992". Randolph has also written: "Trixie" above her image on a
photograph of The Honeymooners cast in the article. Randolph and co-star Art Carney are also
pictured at left. The article, from the September 24, 1987 issue of the "New York Post", is
titled: "How Sweet It Is". The article relates to a seminar given at the Museum of
Broadcasting, at which Randolph and Carney answered questions about The
Honeymooners and scriptwriter Leonard Stern and Jackie Gleason's widow, Marilyn
Taylor Gleason (a former June Taylor dancer who was Gleason's third wife from
December 16, 1975 until his death on June 24, 1987), also spoke. Actress Joyce
Randolph (1925-2024) is the only surviving member of the original cast of The
Honeymooners (1955-1956). The popular series, which was introduced as a sketch on The
Jackie Gleason Show (1952-1957, on which Randolph was a regular performer), starred
Gleason (1916-1987) as Ralph Kramden, the working man's working man and bus driver
extraordinaire. Audrey Meadows (1926-1996) played his wife, Alice, the perfect foil for his
sarcastic wit. Art Carney (1918-2003) played sewer worker Ed Norton, winning three
Emmys for the role. Randolph was his wife, Trixie Norton. The Nortons were friends and
neighbors of the Kramdens. Randolph had performed on Broadway and in television plays of
the 1950s before joining The Honeymooners. She was U.S.O. Woman of the Year (1993) for
her work on behalf of that organization. Lightly creased at lower left corner. Mid-vertical fold.
