Postcard Photograph signed: "Liane Haid". B/w, 3½x5½. Viennese singer
and prima ballerina Liane Haid (1895-2000) made her first films during World War
I, silent propaganda films with titles like With Heart and Hand for the
Fatherland and With God, for Kaiser and Reich. Her most important
starring roles came in the 1920s, with Lady Hamilton (1921) and
Lucrezia Borgia (1926), but she remained active in the early talking era.
She fled Nazi Germany for Switzerland in 1942, living there for most of her many
remaining years. Pen has skipped slightly. Otherwise, fine
condition.
