MARIE WILSON
Marie Wilson sends a typed letter of apology to say that she has been busy and to discuss an upcoming movie project.
Typed Letter Signed: "Marie Wilson", 1p, 5x6½. Hollywood, California, 1940 July 13. To "Dear Chaw". In full: "Your letters arrived quite some time ago, but I've been so terribly busy since I returned from my tour that it was impossible to write. I've just written to Bera Walker to explain why I haven't send the prize before this. However, I'm going to try to send them out very soon now, just as soon as I can have an afternoon for myself, to go shopping. I'm starting working soon in a new Paramount picture entitled 'Virginia' and we're going on location to that state to photograph it. Of course we're all looking forward to our trip. LOOK magazine took some pictures of me recently at a dude ranch and they were published in the July 2 issue. I'm anxious to know how you like those photographs, so do write and let me know, won't you? Your friend". With original stamped mailing envelope with typed address to Mr. Chaw Mank, Staunton, Illinois.Comic actress Marie Wilson (1916-1972), born Katherine Elizabeth Wilson, was best known for playing Irma Peterson in the radio (1947), film (1949) and television (1952-1954) versions of My Friend Irma (1949) and its 1950 film sequel, My Friend Irma Goes West. A former Broadway dancer, Wilson made her film debut in the 1934 Laurel & Hardy film, Babes in Toyland, before signing a contract with Warner Bros. and appearing as the scatterbrained "dumb blonde" in scores of comedies, including Satan Met a Lady (1936) and Boy Meets Girl (1938). Her other films include China Clipper (1936), She's In the Army (1942), Shine On Harvest Moon (1944), A Girl in Every Port (1952) and Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation (1962). In 1944, Wilson was hired to perform a comedy striptease in Ken Murray's Hollywood stage revue, Blackouts. She performed her act in 2,332 performances over the next five years, and Wilson would return to the stage when her film career waned. She also appeared in nightclubs and made guest appearances on a number of TV series, including Where's Huddles (1970, voice) and Love, American Style (1972). Lightly creased with fold, not at signature. Fine condition.
