MARINA SVETLOVA, ROBERT ROLAND, TRINI ROMERO and VALENTIN PAVLOVSKY

Community Concert Association program signed by the famous French Metropolitan Opera Ballet ballerina Marina Svetlova with Robert Roland, Trini Romero and Valentin Pavlovsky

Program signed: "M Svetlova" and "V Pavlovsky" in blue ink and "Robert Roland" and "Trini Romero" in black ink. B/w, 4 pages, 6¼x9¼, 1 sheet folded, front and verso. Community Concert Association program for 1949-50 from Mertens, Parmelee and Brown, Inc. and Columbia Artists Management, Inc. with Svetlova billed as "Prima Ballerina, Metropolitan Opera Association", accompanied by Robert Roland as Leading Male Dancer, Valentin Pavlovsky as Concert Pianist and featuring Trini Romero's "Dances of Spain". MARINA SVETLOVA (1922-2009) was a French ballerina and soloist with the Original Ballet Russe (1939-1941), the Metropolitan Opera Ballet (1943-50) and the New York City Opera (1951-2).Her greatest impact as a dancer, though, may be as a teacher. She was professor of ballet at Indiana University in Bloomington and chairwoman of the ballet department there from 1969 to 1992 and a teacher at the Southern Vermont Art Center in Manchester, Vermont from 1965 and 1995, teaching hundreds of students ballet and dance. ROBERT ROLAND was an American ballet dancer who at the age of nineteen was selected by Col. de Basil for the difficult comedy lead role of “Head Mistress” in Graduation Ball. Touring then with the Ballet Russe, his versatility enabled him to star in many other ballets in almost all the capital cities of Canada and Latin America. Prior to his star-studded career with the Ballet Russe, he danced major roles with Ballet Caravan and the American Ballet Theatre. His career also included several featured dancing parts in four Latin American movies. TRINI ROMERO had the essence of the Spanish dance-both the Flamenco and classical varieties. His vibrant dancing in some of America's leading cities earned a huge acclaim from the public. He was a pupil of New York's Juan Martinez, he exhibited a flair for vital Latin rhythms that charmed audiences in such dance-wise centers as New York, Baltimore, Washington (D.C.) and Cincinnati. VALENTIN PAVLOVSKY was a pianist who was friend of many of the world's great musicians. He was a pupil of the most famous virtuoso and pedagogue, Alexander Siloti. In addition to an eight-year period as accompanist for cellist Gregor Piatigorsky, he was the accompanist and associate of such “greats” as Geraldine Farrar, Paul Kochanski, Maria Kurenko, Nathan Milstein and Isadora Duncan. Lightly toned. Tape residue at top edge. Folded once and unfolded. Otherwise, fine condition.
