Document Signed: "Nina Foch" in ink beneath "Agreed to and Accepted", 1p, 8½x11. Hollywood, California, 1944 December 5. In letter form from Russell Birdwell and Associates, Beverly Hills, California, to Foch regarding her contract with the agency. In part: "This letter will confirm our verbal understanding and agreement that you have engaged Russell Birdwell and Associates as public relations counselors for a period of one (1) year, commencing as of December 5, 1944 and ending on December 4, 1945, for which services you agree to pay Russell Birdwell and Associates the sum of twenty five hundred dollars ($2,500)...It is understood and agreed we are to represent you on publicity and public relations matters concerning you and your career...It is also understood and agreed that you are to pay the costs on photographs made for publicity purposes. This is not an exclusive agreement for our services and we are to have the right to represent other clients and carry on other activities exclusive of this agreement...." Signed the year after Foch had made her film debut in The Return of the Vampire. In the year she signed this document, Foch had appeared six films: Cry of the Werewolf, She's a Soldier Too, Nine Girls, Shadows in the Night, Strange Affair and She's a Sweetheart. In 1945, during the term of this contract, she appeared in another half dozen films: Escape in the Fog, I Love a Mystery, Boston Blackie's Rendezvous, Prison Ship, A Song to Remember and My Name is Julia Ross. Born in Holland and raised in New York City, Nina Foch (1924-2008) trained as a classical pianist before turning to acting. With prominent roles in films for over 50 years, from Return of the Vampire (1943) to Hush (1998), Foch got her Academy Award nomination (for Best Supporting Actress) early (Executive Suite, 1954). A respected drama coach, she made dozens of guest appearances on TV dramas over half a century. Lightly creased, not at signature. "Copy" written across text (all legible). Shaded at upper margin, which has rust paper clip stains at upper left corner. Nicked at blank left edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
