PHIL SILVERS
A contract for the actor to appear as a "Principal Performer" in Dinah!
Document signed: "Phil Silvers" as Performer, 1p, 8½x11. Los Angeles, California, 1975 February 11. CBS Television Stations books actor/comedian Phil Silvers for a February 11, 1975 appearance on the Dinah! television series. Headed: "Standard AFTRA Engagement Contract". Silvers is booked as a "Principal Performer" at a rate of "$337.50 + 1/9" on episode #0092 of Dinah!, which starred Dinah Shore. At the lower portion of the contract, rates of compensation for replays and foreign use are detailed. Also signed: "Norman L Bacon" as Producer. Dinah Shore won a daytime Emmy for Dinah! in 1975, the year that Silvers made his appearance on her show and appeared in two episodes of S.W.A.T. (September 13 and September 20, 1975). Former vaudeville and burlesque performer Phil Silvers (1911-1985) starred in film comedies from the early 1940s, but his big successes came on TV and on stage. Television viewers remember him best as Sergeant Bilko, a role in which he won five Emmys, in the sitcom You'll Never Get Rich (1955-1959). He also appeared in made-for-TV movies and specials and was a guest star on a long list of TV series, including The Jack Benny Program, Gilligan's Island, The Lucille Ball Show, Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, Charlie's Angels, The Love Boat, Happy Days and ChiPs. Silvers' Broadway successes include Yokel Boy (1939), High Button Shoes (1947), Top Banana (1950, for which he won a Tony Award), Do Re Mi (1960) and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, for which he won his second Tony Award, for his portrayal of the slave Pseudolus. Silvers played a different character, brothel owner Lycus, in the 1966 film version. Fine condition.
