PRINCE RAINIER III and PRINCESS GRACE (MONACO)
The ink signatures of both on a philatelic display replicating the treaty on the peaceful uses of outer space, bearing first day cancellation of Monaco and United Nations stamps
Commemorative Sheet signed: "Rainier Prince de Monaco" and "Grace de Monaco" at upper margin on inside page, 4 pages, 8½x10½. 3-franc Monaco stamp and 6-cent United Nations stamps affixed, pictorially postmarked United Nations, New York, October 24, 1967, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Front cover is headed: "Space Treaty". Imprinted caption at lower left margin. Images ©1967, S.M. Kessler. Inside sheet is headed: "Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space, Including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies". Bears the facsimile signatures of Dean Rusk and Arthur J. Goldberg for the United States, Patrick Dean for the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and Anatoly Dobrynin for the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, all of whom signed the "Space Treaty" on January 27, 1967. Ceremonies were held in Washington, D.C. (in the presence of President Lyndon B. Johnson), London and Moscow for the signing of the treaty, which had been unanimously approved by the United Nations on December 8, 1966. Winner of the 1954 Academy Award for Best Actress for The Country Girl, GRACE KELLY retired from the screen and married RAINIER LOUIS HENRI MAXENCE BERTRAND GRIMALDI of Monaco in 1956. The couple had three children: Prince Albert, Princess Caroline and Princess Stéphanie. Their storybook marriage ended tragically when Princess Grace was killed in an automobile accident in 1982. Rainier, who ruled Monaco as Prince Rainier III for nearly 56 years, died on April 6, 2005. Slightly creased, diagonal creases at the United Nations stamp and the beginning flourish of Rainier's signature. Slightly soiled on blank verso. Fine condition.
