RICHARD BOONE
The actor signed this document in 1959 to appear in the episode "The Tunnel" for the
television show Playhouse 90. He received $10,000 for just this appearance!
Carbon Partly Printed Document Signed: "Richard Boone" in ink as Performer, 2p, 8½x11,
front and verso. Hollywood, California. Dated November 4, 1959. On letterhead of CBS
Television Network. Headed: "Standard AFTRA Engagement Contract for Single Television
Broadcast and for Multiple Television Broadcasts Within One Calendar Week". The CBS
Television Network hires Boone to star in the role of "Pleasants" in "The Tunnel", an
episode of Playhouse 90. The performance was to take place at CBS Theatres or Studios in
Los Angeles, California on December 10, 1959. Boone was to receive $10,000 for his
appearance. Also initialed: "LL" under a stamped signature of Leo Lefcourt for CBS.
Although he was starring on his own television series at the time he signed this contract, Boone
appeared as Colonel Pleasants on Playhouse 90 on December 10, 1959. That year, he also had
a guest starring role on The United States Steel Hour, made two appearances (as himself) on
Toast of the Town and was a "guest panelist" on What's My Line? on two different occasions.
Richard Boone (1917-1981) starred in many roles throughout his career but
is best known as Paladin from Have Gun - Will Travel (1957-1963). The
show ran for an incredible 225 episodes. He also appeared in some of the
biggest Western films of all time, including Big Jake (1971) and The
Shootist (1976). After he proved his popularity after Medic (1954-1956) and
Have Gun - Will Travel, he earned the opportunity to star in his own anthology
series titled The Richard Boone Show (1963-1964). Towards the end of his
career, he made one of his more unique contributions to a production: he
voiced Smaug the dragon in The Hobbit (1977), an adaptation of the J.R.R.
Tolkien novel. Lightly creased with folds, not at signature. Staple holes and two file holes at
upper margin, which has stray ink mark. Otherwise, fine condition.
