SHIRLEY MacLAINE
Pensive photograph of the multi-talented Academy Award-winning actress, singer, dancer and author.
Photograph signed: "Shirley MacLaine". B/w, 8x10 overall, image 6¼x9¼ (one surface). Actress and author Shirley MacLaine (born Shirley McLean Beaty in 1934), took dance lessons from the age of two, first performed publicly when she was four and at 16 went to New York, making her Broadway debut as a chorus girl in Me and Juliet (1953). Her dancing skills were evident in the films Can-Can (1960) and Sweet Charity (1969). MacLaine has been nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award five times - Some Came Running (1958), The Apartment (1960), Irma La Douce (1963), The Turning Point (1977) and Terms of Endearment (1983) -- winning the Best Actress Oscar for the latter film. She was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature for The Other Half of the Sky: A China Memoir (1975), which she directed and produced from her screenplay. The talented writer has also authored several books; her seventh, My Lucky Stars, is a memoir of the famed "Rat Pack", of which she was the only female member. MacLaine is the older sister of actor/director Warren Beatty. Name written at lower margin at dark area, but signature is completely legible. Slightly creased at blank margins and corners. Minor surface crease (barely visible) at hair. Fine condition.
