Beverly Bayne was born November 11, 1894, in Minneapolis, Minnesota and she was an American silent film actress active primarily during the 1910s and early 1920s.
She began her film career at Essanay Studios in Chicago in 1912 and became a leading actress during the silent era. Bayne was paired with actor Francis X. Bushman, with whom she formed one of early cinema’s most prominent screen duos. Among their most noted collaborations were Romeo and Juliet (1916), Pennington’s Choice (1915), and The Voice in Conscience (1917). In 1916, both Bayne and Bushman left Essanay for Metro Pictures, continuing their work together.
Bayne and Bushman married in 1918 following his divorce, and their real-life relationship drew public attention during the height of their careers. The pair also co-starred in The Adopted Son (1917) and The Brass Check (1918). However, their popularity waned in the early 1920s as the industry transitioned and new stars emerged. The couple divorced in 1925. After her film career diminished, Bayne appeared in a few stage productions and briefly returned to acting in the sound era, including a role in the 1948 film The Naked City. She also participated in radio and civic theater in later years.
