Matchbook Cover signed: "Stuart Erwin" across the length of the matchbook. 4½x1½ when opened. In 1966, Stuart would guest star in episodes of various television shows, includingGunsmoke, Green Acres,andLassie. Stuart "Stu" Erwin (1903-1967) is an actor best known for Trouble With Father, later called The Stu Erwin Show (1950-1955). The sitcom co-starred Erwin's wife, actress June Collyer, to whom he was married from July 22, 1931 until his death on December 21, 1967. The couple acted together for 20 years before their television outing. Erwin, who was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Pigskin Parade (1936), made his film debut in 1928 in Mother Knows Best. His other film credits include The Band Plays On (1934), I'll Take Romance (1937), Our Town (1940), and Son of Flubber (1963). Erwin, who debuted on Broadway in 1942, was also seen frequently on the small screen. In addition to another series, The Greatest Show on Earth (1963-1964), he made several television movies and appeared as a guest star on shows like Crossroads (1957) to Gentle Ben (1967). Natural matchbook folds. Staple holes. Slightly soiled. Ink notes (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
