THE BEACH BOYS (BRIAN WILSON) - DOCUMENT SIGNED CIRCA 1990 - HFSID 169074
Price: $1,200.00
THE BEACH BOYS: BRIAN WILSON. Document signed: "Brian Wilson" on
page 3, 3p, 8½x11, separate sheets. No place, no date, but circa 1989-1990. Headed:
"Inducement Letter/Dated as of May 20, 1989". The document, however, is dated February
28, 1990 at lower margins. In letter form from the Beach Boys to Binder Entertainment,
Hollywood, California, regarding "Binder Entertainment - 'Beach Boys: Endless Summer'".
Begins: "Reference is made to the agreement concurrently herewith ('Lending
Agreement') between Brother Records, Inc. ('Company') and you, covering the lending
of the services of the undersigned by Company to you. As an inducement to you to enter
into the Lending Agreement and as a material part of the consideration moving to you
for doing so, the undersigned hereby represents, warrants and agrees as follows...." Eight
points are then listed relating to the Lending Agreement. At the end of the document, there are
also lines for Alan Jardine, Mike Love and Carl Wilson to sign, all of which are blank. Endless
Summer, a double compilation album of the Beach Boys' pre-Pet Sounds hits, was
released by Capitol Records in the summer of 1974. The album soared to No. 1 on the
Billboard album chart and remained on the chart for three years. The Beach Boys had
released no new material from 1973-1976, and by the time the album was released, they found
themselves considered an "oldies" band. In 1989, the Beach Boys released their studio
album, Still Cruisin', which featured the title track and "Kokomo". In 1990, another
compilation album, Summer Dreams, was released. That album rose to No. 2 on the
British charts. Brian Douglas Wilson (born in 1942), considered one of the most influential
and innovative songwriters and producers ever, formed the Beach Boys with younger
brothers Dennis and Carl Wilson, cousin Mike Love and college friend, Al Jardine. Their first
song, "Surfin'", which captured the California scene, was released to popular reviews, and a
string of hits, most written by Brian and Love, followed, including "California Girls", "Surfin'
USA", "Surfer Girl", "Little Deuce Coupe", "Don't Worry Baby", "Wouldn't It Be Nice", "God
Only Knows", "I Get Around", "Help Me, Rhonda" and "Good Vibrations". At the height of his
fame, Wilson appeared in several films, including Beach Party (1963), Beach Blanket Bingo
(1965) and How to Stuff a Wild Bikini (1965), as well as on The Beach Boys Special on
television in 1976. After a nervous breakdown, Wilson excluded himself from touring to stay
home to write, arrange and produce songs, creating two of his greatest albums, Beach Boys
Today! and Summer Days (And Summer Nights)! He then released Pet Sounds, which
became a milestone in music and greatly influenced a number of other artists over the next
four decades. After turning his creative genius to producing Smile, an album that he did not
release at that time, Wilson went into seclusion, and it would be eight years before he would
return to the limelight. Eleven years after he left the Beach Boys, he released his first solo
album, Brian Wilson, but the deaths of his two brothers (Dennis in 1983 and Carl in 1998)
pushed him to the edge of another breakdown. He later found a new band, returned to the
touring circuit and released several new albums, including Smile. Brian, who was inducted into
the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2000, is the
father of singers Carnie and Wendy Wilson. In addition to his own recordings, he lent his
vocal talents as a backup singer on Neil Diamond's recording, "Delirious Love". Lightly creased.
Staple holes at upper left margins. Fine condition.
