THE COTTON CLUB: RICHARD GERE and ROBERT EVANS
On behalf of their respective production companies, Gere and Evans sign an agreement regarding funds in an escrow account, in relation to a movie which spawned huge financial as well as artistic disputes and even a murder trial.
Typed DS: "Richard Gere" and "Robert Evans", 5 pages, 8½x11.No place, 1983 August 29. "Indemnification Obligation Letter/Re: 'The Cotton Club'" signed by Gere as President of Gere Productions, Inc. and by Evans as Authorized Officer for Robert Evans Productions, Ltd., regarding disposition of funds in an escrow account. As cornet player and aspiring film star Dixie Dwyer in The Cotton Club (1984), Gere performed his own solos. The Cotton Club was a disaster for Evans: spiraling costs, a bitter feud with Francis Ford Coppola, who was called in to replace him as director, and a trial in which Evans invoked the Fifth Amendment while some of his associates were convicted of murdering a funding source. Lightly creased. Binder holes at top of each page, staple holes in upper left corner. Residue from paperclip above Gere's signature. Otherwise, fine condition.
