THE DANCE OF DEATH PLAY CAST
Hector Elizondo, Zoe Caldwell and Alfred Joseph Antoon sign on a
Playbill for a production of The Dance of Death
Show bill signed: "Zoe Caldwell", "Hector Elizondo", "Alfred
Joseph Antoon", 26 pages, 5¾x9. Playbill for a production of
The Dance of Death at the New York Shakespeare Festival. Puerto
Rican-American actor HECTOR ELIZONDO (b. 1936) has spent nearly
fifty years in the television, theatre, and film industry. Elizondo first got a
taste for performing at the age of ten when he began performing with the Frank
Murray Boys' Choir. He continued to polish his performing skills and, after
studying dance, he made his first professional appearances in off-Broadway
productions of Kill the One-Eyed Man and The Great White Hope. The
stage actor made his first onscreen debut in the 1963 film The Fat Black
Pussycat. After appearing as Vincento in The Edge of Night television
series in 1967, Elizondo had his first big success when he was cast in the 1969
production of Steambath, for which he received an Obie
Award. Even though he only appeared onscreen for a few minutes, one of his
most well-known roles is that of Barney Thompson in the 1990 film Pretty
Woman, for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best
Supporting Actor. Elizondo is best known to TV audiences as Dr. Phillip
Watters on Chicago Hope, a role which he filled for six years.
Elizondo guest starred in such series as Maude (1974), Tales from the
Crypt (1993), The West Wing (2002) and Jack & Bobby (2004)
and starred in such series as Casablanca (1983), Foley
Square (1985-1986) and Down and Out in Beverly Hills (1987).
Being a favorite of director Garry Marshall, Elizondo has appeared in
over a dozen of Marshall's movies, including The Flamingo Kid (1984),
Pretty Woman (1990), Dear God (1996), Runaway
Bride (1999) and the two The Princess Diaries films (2001,
2004). Since the beginning of his long career, Elizondo has been cast in over
135 titles. He is also an accomplished guitarist, singer and dancer, and
was discovered by W.C. Handy, who appeared with him on local radio and
television. ZOE CALDWELL (b. 1933) is a four-time Tony Award-winning
actress. She began acting at nine in a production of Peter Pan and,
at 15, left school to teach speech and perform on a children's radio program.
Caldwell performed in Australia - she is one of the original members of the
Union Theatre Repertory Company in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia - before
making her Broadway debut in The Devils (1965-1966). She has since
appeared in 12 Broadway productions as of this biography, earning Tony Awards
for her performances in Slapstick Tragedy (1966), The Prime of Miss
Jean Brodie (1968), Medea (1982) and Master Class (1995-1997).
Caldwell also has 16 TV shows and movies to her credit (as of this
biography) since 1961, including a recreation of her role of Medea in the TV
adaptation of that play. Disney fans may recognize her voice as that of the
Grand Councilwoman of the United Galactic Federation in Lilo & Stitch
(2002). Also signed by director ALFRED JOSEPH ANTOON
(1944-1992). Lightly toned. Corners slightly worn and creased. Fine
condition.
