Typed Letter signed: "Zachary", 1p, 8½x11. On personal letterhead. New York, N.Y., 1962 May 30. To J. Buford Chisholm, Parke-Bernet Galleries, New York, N.Y.In full: "We are in the process of insuring paintings. The following were bought at your auction for the Spoleto Festival, and the valuations were given to us at Parke-Barnet: 'MOORS IN BOOTS' - John Groth - 16x20 - oil, $225. 'THE SLAUGHTER' - Aldo Pagliacci - 20 x 24¾ - egg tempera on board - $375. 'S. SEBASTIANO IN TUTA' - Aldo Pagliacci - 21x15¼- Egg tempera on board - $300. As we will be in Europe, will you please be good enough to send us c/o our secretary, Miss Maudie McGregor, a letter confirming these figures as proper appraisal for insurance purposes. Very best wishes from us both." SCOTT (1914-1965) appeared on London and Broadway stages before making his first film (1944). He proved equally adept at playing sympathetic heroes and suave cads. In 1945, he won two Best Actor awards from the New York Film Critics Circle (for Mildred Pierce and The Southerner). Married to actress Ruth Ford, he was a frequent TV guest star in the 1950s and early 1960s. Fine condition.
