The popular film and television actor signs a check to the American Federation of TV & Radio Artists in 1954, the year he made his last film for RKO Radio Pictures and began his successful television career.
Check signed "Richard E. Powell", 8¼x3¾. Los Angeles, California, 1954 August 3. Check No. 977, drawn on the account of Richard E. Powell and June Allyson Powell at Security-First National Bank of Los Angeles, payable to the American Federation of TV & Radio Artists for $16. Also signed by a representative of A. Morgan Marree Jr. & Associates, Inc. Stamped endorsement on verso. Actor Dick Powell (1903-1963) sang and played several instruments in live performances and on radio in the late 1920s, and had some hit records. He moved to film musicals in the 1930s, including 42nd Street (1933) and The Gold Diggers of 1933, and subsequent years. Powell moved to dramatic roles in the following decade, beginning by playing Philip Marlow in Murder, My Sweet (1944). He appeared often on early TV, hosting The Dick Powell Show from 1961 until his early death from cancer. Powell, previously married to actresses Joan Blondell, and Allyson were married from 1945 until his death. Bank stamp on verso shows through lightly, touching co-signer's signature. Cancellation holes, not at signatures. Overall, fine condition.
