INGRID BJONER
German-language program page for a 1971 Hamburg State Opera production of Verdi's Don Carlos. Signed by Ingrid Bjoner, who played Elisabeth of Valois.
Program page signed "Ingrid Bjoner" in red ink. 7½x8¾, with 2 binder holes at left edge. German-language cast page for an april 17, 1971 production of Verdi's Don Carlos at the Hamburg State Opera. Bjoner played Elisabeth of Valois in this production. Bjoner (1927-2006), also known as "Die Bjoner", was one of Norway's premiere sopranos. Bjoner was known especially for her interpretations of Strauss and Wagner; her performance of Isolde from Wagner's Tristan und Isolde at the Bayreuth Festival reportedly earned her three-quarters of an hour of applause. Originally trained as a pharmacist in Oslo, she pursued singing as a hobby, making her first professional appearance on Norwegian radio in 1956 and on the stage in 1957. Bjoner was a regular at the Vienna State Opera, Teatro alla Scala, the Metropolitan Opera and the Royal Opera at Covent Garden, among others, and was a popular performer in German opera houses. She retired in 1990 and taught at the Norwegian Academy of Music and Royal Danish Academy of Music. Lightly soiled. Creased. Otherwise in fine condition.
