ROD SERLING
Rod Serling fills out and signs a check to pay Xerox Corporation $73.50.
Check filled out and signed: "Rod Serling", 8¼x3. Los Angeles, California, 1967 December 22. Check No. 4374, drawn on the account of Rod and Carolyn K. Serling at the Bank of America, Brentwood District Branch, payable to "Xerox Corporation" for $73.50. Noted by Serling to be for "Business Machine Chances". Stamped endorsement on verso. In the year he signed this check, Serling appeared on an episode of TV's You Don't Say. He was married to his wife, Carol, from July 31, 1948 until his death on June 28, 1975; the couple had two children. Rod Serling (1924-1975), one of the creative geniuses of early television, received an Emmy Award for his Requiem for a Heavyweight in 1957. Serling, who began selling dramas to television in 1951, created over 90 scripts in the next four years. In 1955, he received his first Emmy for Patterns, but since many of his scripts dealt with controversial subjects - and were targeted by the CBS censors - he turned to science-fiction. Serling's first series, The Twilight Zone, which he created and hosted, aired from 1959-1964 and was television's most popular science-fiction series, winning an Emmy in 1959. Serling, who was a decorated WWII veteran, later hosted the TV series, Night Gallery, from 1970-1973 and a syndicated radio show, The Zero Hour, from 1973-1974. Lightly creased with fold, not at signature. Light show through of bank stamp on verso nicks the upper loop of the "R" in Rod. Cancellation holes at two words of writing. Ink notes (unknown hand) at lower left corner. Overall, fine condition.
