She played the title role of Princess Turandot. Accompanied by: Ticket stub from this performance, stapled to cast page. Ross was a soprano. A New York Metropolitan signer, her Met Opera debut was in 1970 as the title role in Turandot and sang with them continuously until 1976. Her last performance with them was in 1983. LORENGAR (1928-1996, born Pilar Lorenza García in Zaragoza, Spain) was a Spanish soprano. She began her singing career young by participating in a radio program called Onda Infantiles. She debuted in 1955 at Aix-en-Provence as Cherubino in La Nozza di Figaro and, after performing in England and Buenos Aires, Argentina, began a 30-year relationship with the Deutsche Oper Berlin in 1958. Lorengar debuted at the Met in 1966 as Donna Elvira in Mozart's Don Giovanni and performed every season there until 1977. Her performances took her around the world, from San Francisco to Madrid, Brussels to Tokyo and included performances at the famous Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Italy. She was also known for her performances in Zarzuela, a Spanish genre that combines singing, spoken word performances and dance; she recorded a 1985 Zarzuela album in 1985 with Plácido domingo at the Salzburg Music Festival. UPPMAN (1920-2005, born in San Jose, California) was an American baritone. He debuted with the Northern California Symphony Orchestra in 1941 and won accolades for his 1947 performance of Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, which was also his debut role at the New York Metropolitan Opera in 1953. But Uppman's career stalled, and he gave up singing to become an oil worker in California. He was persuaded to return to opera to create the title role in Benjamin Britten's Billy Budd, which debuted at Covent Garden, London, England in 1951; his muscular physique and tanned appearance from his oil working days were perfect for the role. In all, Uppman appeared in almost 400 performances between 1953 and 1977 at the New York Metropolitan Opera. CORELLI (1921-2003, born in Ancona, Italy) was an Italian tenor who sang every season at New York's Metropolitan Opera from 1961-1976. After beginning his career in 1951, when he won the Maggio Musicale competition, Corelli appeared in venues all over the world, including the opening night of La Scala's season in 1954. In 2003, the Metropolitan Opera held paid tribute to the life and career of Corelli, who was unable to attend due to being hospitalized. MICHALSKI (1930-1978, born in Bayonne, New Jersey) in was a bass. He debuted at the New York Metropolitan Opera in 1965 as the King in Verdi's Aïda and appeared every season in over 300 performances until 1976. He created the role of Jed in the 1967 debut of Martin David Levy's Mourning Becomes Electra. SCHMORR (1939 or 1940-1989) was a tenor who debuted at the New York Metropolitan Opera in 1965 as Spoletto in Puccini's Tosca. In all, he had over 700 performances with the Met ever season between 1965 and 1978. He moved to California in 1981 and sang with the San Diego Opera and taught voice lessons.
