WILL VINTON
The famed Claymation director and producer is captured surrounded by his clay creations in 3¾x6 photo, signs his name in silver ink
Printed photograph signed: "Will Vinton" in silver ink. Color, 3¾x6. Photo captioned: "Will Vinton/ The Art of/ Claymation", features Vinton surrounded by his many Claymation characters. Will Vinton (1947-2018) was a director and producer of several animated films, famously through the use of clay animation, a type of stop motion animation where each animated piece is "deformable", made of a malleable substance. Teaming up with clay animator Bob Gardiner in the early 1970s, Vinton perfected his filming skills, and their film, an 8 minute 16mm short film titled Closed Mondays, was released in 1974 to much praise, even earning them an Oscar for best animated short film in 1975. With his success Vinton opened up his own production company titled Will Vinton Studios in Portland to capitalize on his constantly improving animation technology, producing dozens of commercials for regional and national companies, most famously for California Raisins, whose characters were so popular they went on to star in their own CBS television show. He continued to make claymation films as well, including the fairytale trilogy of Martin the Cobbler (1977), Rip Van Winkle (1978) and The Little Prince (1979), and short films such as Dinosaur (1980), The Creation (1981) and The Great Cognito (1982). Edges slightly worn. Light surface creases. Toned on verso. Ink stamp on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
