9¾x10½. Pinkerton has signed each of the photographs depicting him.
William's father, Allan Pinkerton, founded the first private detective agency in
the United States in 1850. The agency was noted for curtailing criminals such as
Billy the Kid, the Reno Brothers, the James Brothers and several members of the
Molly Maguires. William Pinkerton gained national prominence by solving the
Adams Express robberies and guarding President-elect Lincoln on his way to
Washington. William succeeded his father as Superintendent of the firm. Adequate
