in blue ink. 3½x2 clipping. Alton Lennon (1906-1986) was a United States
Senator and Representative from North Carolina. After studying law and
opening a practice in his hometown of Wilmington, North Carolina, Lennon soon
became involved with local politics, serving as a judge of New Hanover County
and member of the State Senate. In 1953 he was appointed to the U.S. Senate
to fill a vacancy, serving one term before losing reelection, later successfully
running for the U.S. House of Representatives and serving seven more terms
(1957-1973). Irregularly cut. Toned. Corners rounded. Pencil notes on verso.
