ARTHUR RUBINSTEIN and ISABEL MARENGO
Renowned Polish pianist and Argentinian soprano sign their names
Autograph sentiment signed: "Recuerdo de/ Arthur Rubinstein" in black ink, translated "Memory of/ Arthur Rubinstein", July 18, 1940; Buenos Aries, Argentina. On verso "L'amor nasce/ vive e muore/ negli occhi/ [illegible]/ Isabel Marengo" in blue ink, roughly translated "The love is born/ live and die/ in the eyes/ [illegible]/ Isabel Marengo". 5¾x4¼. Considered one of the greatest concert pianists of the 20th century, RUBINSTEIN (1887-1982) is best known for his interpretations of Chopin. His huge repertoire included Beethoven, Mozart, Ravel and Stravinsky as well as Chopin. Rubenstein made over 200 recordings, selling over ten million copies. The Polish-born American pianist remained at the top of his profession for over 70 years before his death in 1982 at the age of 95. Argentine lyric soprano ISABEL MARENGO (1894-1977) debuted at Teatro Colón in 1926 as Micaela in Carmen. A star performer at the famed Buenos Aires opera house, she was on stage for the premier of Sirpio (1937), composed by Argentina's own Felipe Boero. Very toned. Edges and corners very worn. Light ink spots on front and verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
