HAL LEONARD (EVERETT EDSTROM)
Sheet music pioneer and big band leader signs a photo for Hal Leonard and his Orchestra. Extremely rare!
Printed photograph signed in ink: "We've had a/wonderful time/with some/'regular; folks!/Sincerely/Hal Leonard", in blue ink. B/w, 8x10. Captioned in lower margin for Frederick Brothers Music Corporation, Hal Leonard and His Orchestra. One of the men behind Hal Leonard and His Orchestra and the now world known sheet music publisher Hal Leonard Corporation is Everett "Leonard" Edstrom. Everett, his brother Harold "Hal" Edstrom and their buddy Roger Busdicker formed a dancing band in the 1930s, going by the name of Hal Leonard. They performed in tours throughout the U.S. until they disbanded in 1947. Everett opened up a music store using the Hal Leonard name, while Harold and Roger led award winning high school bands. Because their music was in such high demand, Harold and Roger decided to sell their compositions in music books to teach musicians everywhere. Thus began Hal Leonard Corporation, which has now grown to become the world leader in sheet music publishing. Their books include original arrangements for the organ, piano, guitar and dozens of others. In 2006 the company acquired BackBeat Books which publishes the Allmusic guide and other music-related publications. Lightly bowed. Minor surface creases (not seen head on). Corners lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
