(1858-1910), a reliable supporter of Tammany Hall boss Richard Croker,
was elected a New York City alderman (1882), sheriff (1885) and mayor
(1889-1892), the City's youngest mayor to date. He was a strong supporter of
infrastructural improvements, although corruption in his administration raised
the cost of these projects. His former home is now the home of the Vatican's
Permanent UN Observer. Ink smudge at the bottom of the "H" in Hugh. Lightly
toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
