JACK KLUGMAN and ARMINA MARSHALL
Klugman as an actor, and Marshall as producer, sign a 1954 AFTRA
contract for his TV appearance on the United States Steel Hour
Document Signed: "Jack Klugman", "Armina Marshall", 1 page,
8½x11. New York, N.Y., 1954 December 1. Klugman signs a standard AFTRA contract
to play the role of "Barney" in a United States Steel Hour dramatic
presentation, "Presento," to be broadcast December 21, 1954. Marshall signs on
behalf of the Theatre Guild as producer. The veteran of over 400 television
shows, JACK KLUGMAN (1922-2012), born Jacob Joachim Klugman in
Philadelphia Pennsylvania, won his first Emmy Award for a guest appearance on
The Defenders in 1964. From 1971 to 1974, he won another two Emmy Awards
for one of his most memorable roles: slob Oscar Madison on The Odd
Couple, which co-starred Tony Randall. He also starred in Quincy
(also titled Quincy, M.E.) which was televised on NBC from 1976 to 1983.
He starred in the title role as Dr. R. Quincy, a medical examiner for the Los
Angeles County Coroner's Office. Klugman, who was also nominated for the 1960
Tony Award for Best Supporting or Featured Actor (Musical) for Gypsy, had
made his film debut eight years later in Grubstake (1952). His other
notable films include 12 Angry Men (1958), Days of Wine and Roses
(1962), Goodbye, Columbus (1969) and Dear God (1996). ARMINA
MARSHALL (1894 or 1895-1991, born in the Cherokee Strip of the old Oklahoma
Territory), who first appeared on the Broadway stage in 1924, became a prominent
playwright and producer. She was also a co-administrator of the Theatre Guild,
which has produced 228 Broadway plays as of 2002. Marshall and Langer received a
Tony Award for the stage version of Sunrise at Campobello in 1958 and a
special Tony (1961) for organizing the first repertory group to tour the world
for the U. S. State Department (at the behest of President John F. Kennedy).
