She signs a contract for her acclaimed role in Playhouse 90's "Days of Wine and Roses."
Document signed: "Piper Laurie", 2p (front and verso), 8½x11. Hollywood, California, 1958 August 13. She signs an agreement with CBS television to portray "Kirsten" in "The Days of Wine & Roses" on Playhouse 90, to be performed at CBS theatres or studios in Los Angeles and broadcast on October 2, 1958. Signed on front. (On verso are standard AFTRA terms). Also initialed: "P.L", on two 1p riders of same date affixed to front. One rider (8½x4½) permits reruns, with Piper to be compensated according to the standard AFTRA code; the other (8x5) stipulated "first star billing" for Laurie. Actress Piper Laurie (born Rosetta Jacobs in 1932) played light, youthful roles in films of the 1950s, emerging later as a powerful dramatic actress. She received a nomination for the Best Actress Academy Award for The Hustler (1961) and was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Carrie (1976; also nominated for a Golden Globe) and Children of a Lesser God (1986). Laurie's acclaimed TV performances include the Playhouse 90 version of Days of Wine and Roses (1958), the miniseries, The Thorn Birds (1983; Golden Globe nomination), and Twin Peaks (1990). She received an Emmy Award for her performance in the made-for-TV movie, Promise (1986). Lightly toned. Staples at left edge for affixing of riders. Binder holes at top have broken through to top edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
