SEÑOR WENCES
The ventriloquist agrees to use his signature "'s' allright" on a TV ad for tires.
Document signed: "Señor Wences", 1p, 8x10¼. New York, N.Y., 1963 February 8. Also initialed "S.W." on a stapled rider (8x2¼) confirming that the payment conforms to the Screen Actors Guild scale. He contractrs with N.W. Ayer & Son, INc. to do an off-camera voice-over recording of his identifying phrase, "'a' allright" as part of a TV commercial for U.S. Rubber, a client of Ayer. Wences will be paid $3,000 for the recording session and right of use, payable c/o his agent, the William Morris Agency. Spanish-born ventriloquist Wenceslao Moreno (1896-1999), who was known as Senor Weñces, had found fame as a matador before he gained popularity in the U.S. after frequent appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show. His famous characters included Johnny, a child-like face drawn on Weñces' hand and then placed atop a headless doll, and Pedro, a disembodied head in a box, who would utter Weñces' signature line, "s'alright". His act included juggling and plate twirling - complete with heckling from Johnny and Pedro. Binder holes at top. Various approval stamps and ink notations. Overall, fine condition.
