Albert Spalding sends an autograph letter about the pieces he will
play in the United States.
Autograph Letters signed: "A. S.", 1p front and verso, 8½x10¾.
Weldon (near Rutland), Vermont, 1919 August 11. To André Benoist Espre,
Mammoth Beach, New Jersey. In full first six lines are in French not
translated: "We are having a glorious, peaceful, restful time. Are
finding ample time to work Ocdtch Fautani goes a face - and the tricky double
harmonies in h. Papauiuui's Caupauells no longer growl at me. Tell us! Have you
had any Coups copied yet - If not, why not? Do it, [illegible] - or
you'll have a rare [illegible] when I get back. I want 2 copies made of

" " " Intermezzo - hairs (solo) We have a charming little 2x4 cottage with all
enclosed conveniences including a front door and a pantry sink. Nothing but
flies to bother us - and they're as bad as neighbors - A summer house opens out
on an artificial lake, (trout and something else - best no catch), a riapasa

Understand I want to play that and nothing else for the statue - so don't 'fun
things up' - The Busch will do O.K. for Philharmonic - Better association from

Cincinatti - and also Chicago; in Boston with Sympothy proper to May

Albert Spalding (1890-1953), the son and nephew of the sporting goods pioneers,
James Walter Spalding and Albert Spalding, made his Paris debut in 1905 at
the age of 17 and his American debut in 1908 at Carnegie Hall at the age of
20. He was the first American violinist to enjoy international popularity.
He later taught at Juilliard (1933-1944) and composed for violin and
piano. Fold creases not near signature. Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine
condition.
